With such data being displayed, Orange County photographers seeking to expand should consider learning this type of photography. The following are some items a photographer should consider before taking the plunge into newborn photography.
Is your personality a good fit for newborn photography? One of the keys to succeeding in this new area is the skill to get and keep a baby to sleep. Loud is not conducive to this objective. In addition, you must be willing to dress down a little (there is a good chance that your clothing will be wet upon or otherwise soiled while you are working – not compatible with that new silk shirt).
Do you have a studio – or a place for a studio? Unlike wedding photographers, who shoot on location, a newborn shoot pretty much needs to be indoors. Newborns are just too fragile. They don't do well in the sun, heat, or cold. If you want them to sleep, you need a warm indoor location which has the temperature set to an optimal temperature.
Are you prepared to develop a long term relationship with clients? Wedding photographers and others often provide their service and then don't hear from their client for 25 years when there client's daughter is getting married. The opportunity for newborn photographers is to develop a relationship that provides a lot of repeat shoots. A photographer can contact the parents when the child is 1 for 1 year pictures, 5 for school pictures, 8 for baptism pictures, 18 for Senior Pictures and 25 for wedding pictures.
